The Pixsy Reddit Command

The default function of the reddit command is a Reddit search. So, if you enter the following into Pixsy or the Pixsy extension for Chrome:

.reddit technology

you will perform a search for the term, ‘technology’, across all subreddits on the site.

Search a Single Subreddit

You can drill down your search to a specific subreddit by entering the indicator subreddit: in your search query. Follow this with the search term that you are interested in finding after the subreddit indicator. Confused? Here’s an example:

.reddit subreddit:pics geeks

This command searches the ‘pics’ subreddit for the query term, ‘geeks’.

Note the structure of the command. .reddit, space, subreddit:pics, space, geeks.

You can enter the name of any subreddit and Pixsy will construct the appropriate URL with your search term properly URL encoded in order to allow you to quickly access these areas of the Reddit site without the need to click search selectors on the site.

Search Across Multiple Subreddits

If you would like to perform your search across multiple subreddits, chain the subreddits in a ‘+’ symbol delimited list. Here is an example for a search for ‘kittens’ in the ‘funny’ and ‘pics’ subreddits.

.reddit subreddit:funny+pics kittens

You can chain together as many subreddits as you’d like (I think, I’ve tested up to five).

Get Help with the Reddit Command

You can get additional help for any Pixsy command by using the -help option. For the .reddit command, enter the following:

.reddit -help
